Jewish Living: The Unexpected Gift
with Dr. Tyree Wieder, Temple Ahavat Shalom

My journey to Judaism—and what has sustained me as a Jew—is a deeply personal story, one that gains meaning when shared. Though we came from very different worlds, the love of my life introduced me to Judaism, and together we later co-authored Matzo Balls and Cornbread: A Love Story, reflecting on our journey across cultures, traditions, and faith. Becoming part of the Jewish community was an adventure—challenging at times, but ultimately deeply rewarding. Through stories and reflection, I will share how Judaism has shaped my sense of identity, purpose, and belonging, and the unexpected gift it continues to be in my life.

Dr. Tyree Wieder is the former president of Los Angeles Valley College, where she served for 14 years, and has held numerous leadership positions in higher education.
